A strong earthquake trembled the countries of Panama and Costa Rica on Wednesday afternoon, July 21. Multiple reports regarding the strength of the quake surfaced, but Associated Press noted that there were no reports of damage so far.

6.8 Seismic Magnitude Scale Earthquake Hits Panama and Costa Rica

Citing U.S. Geological Survey, Associated Press reported that the epicenter of the earthquake was off the Pacific coast of Panama and Costa Rica's shared border, which was relatively far from the countries' largest population centers.

The earthquake was initially reported by authorities with 7.0 seismic magnitude scales, then it was downgraded to magnitude 6.8, Sputnik News reported. However, the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) noted that the strength of the said earthquake was at magnitude 6.9, Reuters reported.
